The Swoosh’s .SWOOSH division continues their exploration of the intersection between digital nostalgia and sneaker culture; with the upcoming .SWOOSH x Nike Air Max 1 “Big Head Origins”, inspired by the iconic Donkey Kong franchise.

About the .SWOOSH x Nike Air Max 1 “Big Head Origins”

The design draws inspiration from Donkey Kong. Textured brown suede overlays evoke his fur, while bold red and yellow accents, reminiscent of his signature tie, provide a familiar visual contrast. Pixelated tongue branding and coin-inspired insoles further connect the design to the Donkey Kong franchise. A banana peel graphic and a custom “DS” coin nod to the collectible treasures of classic platformers.

Jagged design elements echo the polygonal graphics of the ’90s. The Nike Air badge on the heel, reimagined as a coin, contributes to the overarching narrative. ESRB-style branding on the tongues provides a final flourish. Even the shoebox itself, bathed in yellow reminiscent of vintage arcade cartridges, reinforces this release’s conceptual cohesion.

Release Details

The .SWOOSH x Nike Air Max 1 “Big Head Origins” is scheduled to launch sometime in Spring 2025 at select Nike Sportswear retailers, Nike.com, and .SWOOSH online platforms. Pricing details are yet to be confirmed, but the anticipated retail price is US$150.
