There’s no doubt that Gengar and Mimikyu are the two most popular Ghost-type Pokémon. As such, when the duo appeared together on a TAG TEAM card in Team Up, the card predictably became one of the set’s biggest hits and went on to be one of the most coveted pulls of the Pokémon TCG’s seventh generation.

About Gengar & Mimikyu GX (Team Up 165/181)

The card’s Full Art illustration makes use of a shadowy visual effect that immensely enhances the card’s aesthetic value. The heavy use of shadows gives the imagery an eerie, haunting feel which is ideal for a card depicting two Ghost-type Pokémon. Adding to this are Gengar and Mimikyu’s expressions (or lack thereof in the latter case); Gengar’s menacing look is juxtaposed alongside the emotionless disguise which covers Mimikyu’s true form. The image therefore adds much character depth to the Ghost-type duo.

The names of the card’s two attacks, Poltergeist and Horror House GX, further add to the card’s theme. Even the effects of those two attacks have to do with the idea of “being haunted”—Poltergeist dishes out 50 damage for each Trainer card (including Item cards) in the opponent’s hand while Horror House GX prevents the opponent from playing any cards from the hand during the opponent’s next turn. In summary, everything here combines to make this card a truly epic thematic card.
