About Change of Heart (Rarity Collection Quarter Century Edition RC04-JP051)

As implied by its name, Rarity Collection Quarter Century Edition consisted of reprints of various Yu-Gi-Oh TCG cards to commemorate the TCG’s 25th anniversary. This card, like all the others in Rarity Collection Quarter Century Edition, had a version in Quarter Century Secret Rare—the rarity which Konami created in honor of the milestone. Additionally, the card would interest those who got into the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG via the Yu-Gi-Oh anime as well because in the anime, it’s the favorite card of Ryo Bakura.

Gameplay-wise, this card has a simple yet extremely powerful effect: it enables the player to target a monster card controlled by the opponent, then take control of that card until the End Phase. This effect was so game-breakingly powerful that Change of Heart was completely banned from competitive play between March and August 2004 and again from March 2005 to December 2022 in Japan and Asia-Pacific; elsewhere, it was banned from April 2005 to May 2022. To this day, for players outside Japan and Asia-Pacific, only one copy of Change of Heart is allowed to be included in a tournament deck.
