New Balance’s 1906R line expanded significantly last year, with the 1906L loafer model proving to be the most divisive. Despite initial skepticism, the sneaker-loafer hybrid has been a commercial success, selling out in every released colorway. While anticipation builds for the “Silver Metallic/Navy/Dark Juniper” edition, a new New Balance 1906L “Black Suede” iteration has surfaced in Spring 2025.

About the New Balance 1906L “Black Suede”

The New Balance 1906L “Black Suede”, appearing alongside a “Rich Oak” suede variant, features a completely Black suede upper. It retains design elements from the original 1906R, such as the triangular overlays and mudguards.

However, its laceless, slip-on design incorporates loafer-specific details like a forefoot strap and a repositioned “N” logo on the toe box. The TPU heel counter, complete with metallic silver NB branding, remains unchanged. Although the upper is redesigned in a loafer style, the sole unit maintains its athletic roots, utilizing the all-black tooling of the 860v2.

Release Details

The New Balance 1906L “Black Suede” is scheduled for a Spring 2025 release through New Balance and select retailers, both online and in physical stores. It will be available in unisex sizing for US$160.
