The release of Super Electric Breaker [SV8] handed the Gholdengo ex deck, a deck which had previously fallen somewhat behind in the Pokémon TCG metagame, a major lifeline by way of the Togekiss card. The proof that adding Togekiss to the Gholdengo ex deck works can be seen in recent tournament results: a third-place finish at the Sacramento Regionals in the hands of Mexican player Victor de Velasco followed by two top-10 finishes at the following week’s Stuttgart Regionals.

The standout gameplay feature of this card is Wonder Kiss, the Fairy/Flying-type Pokémon’s Ability. Whenever the player picks up a KO on the opposing Active Pokémon, the player then has the opportunity to flip a coin; if the coin turns up heads, the player picks up an additional Prize card.

This makes Togekiss a crucial addition to the Gholdengo ex deck because it’s a deck that, outside of the Radiant Greninja card from Battle Region [S9a], doesn’t have any way to deal spread damage and thus take multiple Prize cards in the same turn without having to KO a multi-Prize opposing Pokémon. Since spread damage has become increasingly important in the present meta, Togekiss serves as an effective way to mitigate the Gholdengo ex deck’s relative lack of it.

From a collector’s perspective, however, this Togekiss card isn’t anything to get overly excited over. With a rarity of Rare (R) and imagery which doesn’t particularly stand out in any way, this card is primarily sought by serious players instead.
