Ever since its introduction, the Brannew card from Pillars of Strength [OP-03] has been a key part of multiple black decks. It has been a staple of highly metagame-relevant ONE PIECE Card Game decks such as the Black Luffy and Black Moria decks as well as the now-banned Blue/Black Sakazuki deck; more recently, it’s found a place in a new variant of the Black Smoker deck as well.

About Brannew (Pillars of Strength [OP-03] OP03-089)

Ideally, this card is to be played in the early game. This is because it serves as an early-game draw engine to give the player the cards needed to build a resource advantage right out of the gate. When Brannew is played, the player adds any Navy-type Character card other than any other Brannew card to the hand. The other two cards are trashed.

When placed in the Black Smoker deck, this card pairs well with the Sengoku card from the Black Smoker Starter Deck [ST-19] because that card allows the player to draw three more cards after trashing two black Navy-type cards—such as that added to the player’s hand by Brannew—as long as the deck’s Leader card is a Navy-type card itself. Such is the case with the Black Smoker deck.

From a collectability standpoint, this is one of the cards which has its most valuable version in English rather than in Japanese. The particular version in question was handed out as a tournament prize card to finalists of Online Regional tournaments in early 2024. It features alternate artwork that’s never been seen on a Japanese card as well as the Online Regionals logo.

This card has already been released in Japanese.

A copy of an Online Regionals Finalist version of a Brannew (Pillars of Strength [OP-03] OP03-089) card sells for 29,970 (~US$200).
