Dark Magician Girl, the card popularized in the Yu-Gi-Oh anime as one of the signature cards of protagonist Yami Yugi as well as Téa Gardner, is one of the most iconic Yu-Gi-Oh TCG cards of all time. Its Toon counterpart might have thus always been overshadowed—however, when Quarter Century Limited Pack was recently released, the Ultra Rare version of Toon Dark Magician Girl depicted on the old Yu-Gi-Oh TCG card layout proved to be one of its biggest hits.

The fact that the card uses the classic card layout is sure to evoke nostalgia in long-time Yu-Gi-Oh TCG enthusiasts. It’s a call-back to the TCG debut of Toon Dark Magician Girl from the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters 6: Expert 2 promotional cards which were released in 2001. Largely for this reason, although this card’s rarity is Ultra Rare, its value is greater than that of the same set’s Quarter Century Secret Rare version which comes on the present-day card layout. On top of that, as is so often the case, cards that feature a female character tend to draw more demand; Toon Dark Magician Girl is no different in this regard.

However, perhaps the biggest driver of this card’s value lies in its connection to Dark Magician Girl. Dark Magician Girl’s status as probably the second-most iconic Yu-Gi-Oh TCG card behind Blue-Eyes White Dragon indirectly gives a boost to all cards associated with it—including all Toon Dark Magician Girl cards. Finally, as is the case with all Toon cards and befitting of the name, the cartoonish illustration on the card which greatly differs from those of most other Yu-Gi-Oh TCG cards adds appeal because of the visual novelty it supplies.
