[Yu-Gi-Oh TCG] ARG☆S – Adra the Laurels (Supreme Darkness SUDA-JP010) [Release Date/Price/Where To Buy]
As with all convoluted puns, the one behind this card is absolutely worth the payoff.
It’s not often that wordplay, especially multi-lingual wordplay, is one of the defining features of a Yu-Gi-Oh TCG card. However, this is exactly the case with the newly-released ARG☆S – Adra the Laurels card from Supreme Darkness.
About ARG☆S – Adra the Laurels (Supreme Darkness SUDA-JP010)
This card’s Japanese name includes the Japanese word “eikan” which translates to “laurels” and is a near-homophone of the Greek word “eikṓn” which refers to any visual representation or likeness of a sacred or venerated figure such as the one in the card’s background. To complete the pun, that sacred figure is also depicted with a laurel wreath over its head. On top of all of that, the word “eikṓn” sounds like the English word “icon” which the background figure is implied to be.
This card also has canonical continuity with the ARG☆S – Home Stadium card, another card from Supreme Darkness. ARG☆S – Adra the Laurels can be seen in the background of that card’s illustration. Of course, the fact that the card can come in Quarter Century Secret Rare as well as its depiction of a female character will both certainly add to its appeal.
