Pokémon Centers, the Pokémon-centric stores at which all manner of Pokémon products including an array of Pokémon TCG items are sold, have been pillars of the Pokémon franchise ever since the first one opened in Tokyo in 1998. To honor the 15th anniversary of the opening of the very first Pokémon Center, Creatures Inc. released this promotional Pikachu card in 2013 as part of the Pokémon Center 15th Anniversary Premium Card Set.

About Pikachu (BW-P Promotional Cards 229/BW-P)

The card’s illustration is relatively simple: it features Pikachu in front of a monochrome lightning bolt background. Of course, the lightning bolts refer to Pikachu being an Electric-type Pokémon. The color scheme, meanwhile, refers to the fifth-generation main series Pokémon video games Pokémon Black and White as well as their sequels Pokémon Black 2 and White 2; this card was released close to the end of Gen 5.

Adding to the card’s value is its status as a commemorative card as it was launched in honor of a notable Pokémon milestone. This card is actually a promotional reprint of a previously-existing card; this same Pikachu card was part of Black Collection [BW1] and White Collection [BW1]; however, neither of those original versions have anything near the value that this card does.

Release Details

The promotional version of this card was never released in English.

A copy of a Pikachu (BW-P Promotional Cards 229/BW-P) card sells for 95,470 JPY (~US$640).
