The unban of Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King in Yu-Gi-Oh tournament play in Japan and Asia-Pacific which takes effect on 1 October 2024 has been met with mixed reviews. Many claimed that its unban was something which ought to have taken place a long time ago. Others said that its reintroduction would be a massive risk which could potentially throw off the balance of the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG metagame.

About Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King (Maximum Crisis MACR-JP024)

The main reason why Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King is once again allowed in Yu-Gi-Oh TCG tournaments in Japan and Asia-Pacific is because there, a larger number of floodgate cards that work in tandem with this card have also either been banned or restricted. Prior to this, it had been banned since September 2017; it was banned elsewhere in May 2018 and remains so to this day. Since Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King no longer supplies the same level of floodgate support as it once did, Konami deemed it deserving of an unban—a call which drew plaudits from many Yu-Gi-Oh TCG players.

That said, some expressed apprehension about Konami’s decision. Some in the community claimed that the card was too easy to bring into play for the sheer power it has. They also claimed that despite the limits placed on the floodgate cards mentioned, Master Peace, the True Dracoslaying King arguably remained the single best Main Deck monster card of all time even years after its introduction.

This card comes in the rarity of Secret Rare. It’s connected to two other cards in Maximum Crisis as the character depicted is Master Peace, the True Dracoslayer after having been fused with Mariamne, the True Dracophoenix. This is shown by the character’s white wings that resemble Mariamne’s as well as its shield which resembles Mariamne’s crown.
