Pokémon TCG Lisia's Appeal

When the list of cards to be part of Pokémon TCG set Paradise Dragona [SV7a] was confirmed, there was one obvious standout: the Special Art Rare (SAR) version of Lisia’s Appeal. After all, the Lisia card from seventh-generation set Sky-Splitting Charisma [SV7] had been an absolute megahit in its day; thus, anticipation was high for that card’s successor. Without a doubt, this ninth-generation follow-up to that card has not disappointed.

About Lisia’s Appeal (Paradise Dragona [SV7a] 091/064)

As has been alluded to, one of the factors which will undoubtedly draw many to this card is the renown of the Lisia card from Gen 7. That card was the first-ever card depicting the ace Pokémon Coordinator who’s the niece of Sootopolis Gym Leader Wallace. Of course, as is so often the case, any card with a Full Art illustration of a female character is bound to be a major pull. The card’s rarity of SAR further adds to its desirability; there’s also the nostalgia factor to account for due to Lisia’s ties to Wallace.

Lisia’s Altaria, nicknamed “Ali”, can be seen in the top-left corner of the card. This is the main reason why this card is part of a set themed around the Dragon type—although Lisia is not a Dragon-type specialist, Altaria is indeed a Dragon-type Pokémon. Ali’s appearance on the card is also a nod to Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the sixth-generation remakes of third-generation main series Pokémon video games Ruby and Sapphire. In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Ali is the Pokémon which Lisia uses in Pokémon Contest Spectaculars.

Finally, the holofoil that covers the card provides a significant visual effect. It makes it seem as though a spotlight is shining on Lisia and Ali—apt for an in-universe celebrity and a character whose design and concept are intended to resemble those of J-pop idols.
