Yu-Gi-Oh TCG Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal

Three of the four cards which Konami has just banned from Yu-Gi-Oh TCG tournament play outside Japan and the rest of Asia-Pacific received the banhammer to blunt the dominance of the Fiendsmith engine as well as the Snake-Eye decks which often make use of it. One of those three cards is Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal from Quarter Century Chronicle side:UNITY.

About Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal (Quarter Century Chronicle side:UNITY QCCU-JP144)

Although Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal had always been an exceptionally potent card, it had never warranted a prohibition from tournament play because the metagame had never been in a position in which a deck archetype in which this card could maximize its game-breaking power dominated the metagame. This, however, changed with the rise of the Fiendsmith Snake-Eye deck.

In the Fiendsmith Snake-Eye deck, Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal could easily work alongside Fiendsmith’s Lacrima (which has also been banned) from Infinite Forbidden to greatly simplify access to the Snake-Eye Ash card from Age of Overlord, one of the deck’s most important cards. It also greatly hampers the effect of opposing hand traps, often forcing decks playing against Fiendsmith Snake-Eye decks which contain Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal to include more hand trap cards than usual, disrupting these opposing decks’ balance right from the outset.

This card’s appeal isn’t just about its potency in gameplay. Rarity-wise, this card comes in Quarter Century Secret Rare—the special rarity commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG. This is also a card that depicts a female character and will therefore garner much appeal due to demographic reasons.
