Arguably the single most anticipated card in the newly-released ONE PIECE Card Game set Emperors in the New World [OP-09] was the Gol D. Roger card. Two years, eight sets, and 20 Starter Decks in, no card of the original “King of the Pirates” had ever been released. Understandably, fans had been champing at the bit to land such a card. Now, they have their wish—as long as they’re willing to shell out serious money for it.

About Gol D. Roger (Emperors in the New World [OP-09] OP09-118)

BANDAI knew that the first Gol D. Roger card had to be suitably spectacular and extravagant to mark the ONE PIECE Card Game debut of the most legendary pirate of them all within the One Piece universe—and this card certainly hasn’t disappointed in that regard. This card is not only a Manga Rare; it’s also the very first ONE PIECE Card Game to come in the Secret Rare Gold Super Parallel (SEC-GSP) rarity. That rarity was also likely named as a nod to the character himself.

Like all Manga Rares, this card’s background is comprised of panels taken directly from the One Piece manga. Notably, the top-left corner of the background features the iconic “he laughed” panel from Chapter 967, highlighting Roger’s incredulous reaction upon discovering the One Piece itself because (SPOILER) he knew he would not live to take full advantage of it. Gameplay-wise, this card is also expected to make a significant impact on the metagame. Its Power of 13000 is thus far the highest in ONE PIECE Card Game history—apt for the King of the Pirates. This card is also expected to significantly elevate the Red Edward Newgate deck and once again make that deck a tournament staple.

Release Details

This card will be released in English in December 2024 with the rest of Emperors in the New World [OP-09].

Understandably, the price of a Gol D. Roger (Emperors in the New World [OP-09] OP09-118) card of SEC-GSP rarity is truly staggering. The latest numbers place a copy at 500,000 JPY (~US$3,399)!
