One of the most anticipated moments of the Pokémon World Championships every year regards the reveal of the special Pokémon TCG cards awarded as prizes to the top three finishers in each Pokémon TCG and Pokémon Video Game Championship (VGC) age division as well as the top three finishers in the Pokémon Go and Pokémon Unite tournaments. The three cards carry the same name every year—No. 1 Trainer, No. 2 Trainer, and No. 3 Trainer. They were awarded on 18 August 2024, the last day of the 2024 Pokémon World Championships.

About the 2024 Pokémon TCG World Championships Prize Cards

Something that’s notable about the prize cards from 2024 Worlds is the fact that the cards use the same illustration as the 2023 Worlds version but with the logo in the bottom-left corner replaced by this year’s logo. This was somewhat expected, given the fact that last year’s card illustrations were very well-received by the Pokémon TCG community.

Although the top four finishers of the Pokémon World Championships—therefore including all three players in each category awarded this card—automatically qualify for the following year’s Worlds, the 2024 version of the card is the first time that the cards do not specify such being the case on their text. This is likely to avoid an awkward situation in the event of an emergency cancellation as was the case in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic; the 2019 iteration of the cards rather embarrassingly had the phrase “You may return to battle the best in 2020” on them.

Release Details

These cards will not be released in any language other than English. Not only that—the cards awarded at Worlds will be the only copies of the cards to ever exist.

Should at least one of the cards ever be sold, expect the card to go for a truly enormous amount of money.
