On 16 August 2024, more than 1,000 of the world’s best Pokémon TCG players will descend upon the Hawaiʻi Convention Center in Honolulu for a shot at the world title. Due to the massive number of players entering the fray, the 2024 tournament will be the edition of the Pokémon TCG World Championships with the largest number of participants.

How the Tournament Will Work

The tournament schedule is as follows (all times listed are HST):

16 August, 9:45AM to 8:45PM: Day 1 Swiss
17 August, 9AM to 7:30PM: Day 2 Swiss, quarterfinals, semifinals
18 August, 10:15AM onwards: finals (all age divisions)

There will be eight Swiss rounds played on Day 1; all players with 18 points or more advance to Day 2. The Pokémon TCG World Championships uses a similar point system to that of European football—three points for a win and one for a draw.

On Day 2, four further Swiss rounds will be played before an asymmetrical top cut begins. In the asymmetrical top cut, all players with the same number of match points as the player in eighth place will play for a spot in the quarterfinals. Once this asymmetrical top cut has concluded, the quarterfinals will begin, from which it will be a straight knockout tournament.

This is the first year in which the Pokémon TCG World Championships will be using this tournament format. In previous years, the top seeds advanced directly to Day 2. However, starting from this year, the Day 1/Day 2 split will no longer be in effect.

In addition to the main Masters tournament, there are also two other age divisions. The Senior division is open to players born between 2008 and 2011 while the Junior division is open to players born in 2012 or later.

Prize Pool

The prize pool is as follows:

  • 1st place – US$50,000
  • 2nd place – US$30,000
  • 3rd-4th place – US$20,000
  • 5th-8th place – US$15,000
  • 9th-16th place – US$10,000
  • 17th-32nd place – US$5,000
