[Pokémon TCG] Friends in Alola Far Outshines Its Counterpart Cards (SM-P Promotional Cards 401/SM-P)
Unlike other Supporter card of its like, this card has become one of the most valuable and sought-after of the last decade.
While many Pokémon TCG cards similar to Friends in Alola have been printed over the years, this seventh-generation iteration of a “stock” card occupies a unique slot among them all. That’s because of the exclusivity behind this promotional Supporter card.
The only way to obtain the Friends in Alola card when it was first released was to order the Limited Collection Master Battle Set from a Pokémon Center or the Pokémon Center Online starting from 16 August 2019. Those who did so received the card along with the Battle Set in December 2019.
In addition to featuring a Full Art illustration, the card also features five characters who play major roles in the Pokémon Sun and Moon video games: Gladion, Hau, Lillie, Mallow, and Lana. Of the five, it’s almost certainly Lillie who’s the main driver of this card’s value. This is because in addition to the usual “female character boost”, Lillie has been featured on some of the most expensive and coveted cards in the history of the Pokémon TCG such as the Lillie’s Full Force card from Dream League [SM11b] as well as the iconic promotional Extra Battle Day Lillie card.
Finally, the illustration itself, while not explicitly taken from the video games, could absolutely be something from the canonical material. It has exactly the vibe that one would expect from a card with all five of these characters on it—especially in a post-credits segment of the games.
There was never an English version of this card.
Anyone seeking a Friends in Alola (SM-P Promotional Cards 401/SM-P) card will have to fork out a huge amount of money—a card sells for 380,000 JPY (~US$2,494)!
