[Pokémon TCG] A Major Pull Straight From Hoenn’s Contest Halls: Lisia (Sky-Splitting Charisma [SM7] 104/096)
Because Pokémon Contest Spectaculars are—and have always been—underrated.
A character introduced in the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire video games—the sixth-generation remakes of third-gen main series games Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire—Lisia is a Coordinator who scouts up-and-coming Pokémon Contest Spectacular aces. As the daughter of Sootopolis Gym Leader Wallace, she also has canonical ties to the original Gen 3 games. However, that’s not the only reason behind the immense value of this card from seventh-generation Pokémon TCG set Sky-Splitting Charisma [SM7].
Being a card with a Full Art illustration of a female character, this Super Rare (SR) card has an inherent level of value right off the bat. Adding to this, Lisia’s fairly revealing outfit, canonical status as the in-universe equivalent of the real world’s J-pop idols, and even the fact that she’s shown winking her right eye all add to the card’s demographic appeal.
The somewhat kaleidoscopic background of the card adds a further aesthetic layer. It pairs well with Lisia’s general aesthetic; the star shapes that can also be seen in the background pattern also allude to Lisia’s celebrity status. Finally, this card has a nostalgia factor in play due to Lisia’s connections to Wallace, a character introduced three generations earlier.
In English, this card is card 164/168 in the Celestial Storm set.
A copy of a Lisia (Sky-Splitting Charisma [SM7] 104/096) card sells for the massive sum of 280,000 JPY (~US$1,833).
