Devin Booker’s Nike Book 1 “Forrest Gump” PE Gets a Release Date
Dressed in White, Varsity Red and Blue—just like the classic Cortez.
Phoenix Suns All-Star guard Devin Booker debuted his first signature Nike silhouette, the Book 1, in the last season. The model’s initial rollout faced criticism for the sheer volume of Player Exclusive (PE) colorways unveiled before its global launch.
Nevertheless, the Book 1 has garnered solid traction among fans and athletes who appreciate its fusion of lifestyle aesthetics and performance technology, one of which takes inspiration from a cinematic classic, the iconic Nike Cortez worn by Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump.
Booker has made a signature move of borrowing elements from classic Swoosh silhouettes and their colorways into his PEs, solidifying the Book 1’s embrace of both retro style and a “future classic” design language, as he himself has described it.
The Nike Book 1 “Forrest Gump” PE boasts a clean upper constructed from a blend of leather and canvas twill, faithfully replicating the serrated leather eyestays and vamp seen on the original Cortez. A predominantly White color scheme is complemented by Varsity Red accents on the Swoosh, heel tab, and Booker’s branding—a subtle nod to the classic Cortez colorway.
Performance elements remain at the fore, with a Zoom Air-cushioned Cushlon midsole detailed in white rubber and a Varsity Blue heel accent that mimics the Cortez’s original palette. All of the above-mentioned come together atop a white outsole.
While initially reserved for Booker himself, the “Forrest Gump” PE version of the Nike Book 1 is poised to hit retail shelves on 9 January 2025. Find the pair at select Nike stores and online retailers. The silhouette will be available in men’s sizing and priced at US$140.
