[Pokémon TCG] Poncho-wearing Eevee Burns With Passion for Evolution (SM-P Promotional Cards 139/SM-P)
One of the OG three Eeveelutions (indirectly) takes the spotlight here.
Ever since day one, Eevee and its evolutions have ranked among the most popular Pokémon. Capitalizing on this fact, Creatures Inc. released the Poncho-wearing Eevee series in 2017. This series features eight promotional Pokémon TCG cards; each bears the image of Eevee in a poncho bearing the image of an Eeveelution.
This Poncho-wearing Eevee card is the version that has Eevee in a Flareon poncho. The plaid background of red and orange is highlighted by a layer of holofoil, creating a visual effect almost resembling flames. This, of course, is a direct reference to Flareon itself.
Of course, the implication of the illustration is that Eevee’s true desire is to evolve into Flareon. This adds a narrative component to the card, jacking up its overall value. Its attack of “Fire Fang?” with a question mark—a reference to Flareon’s actual Fire Fang attack—further makes it clear that this is just Eevee pretending to be Flareon.
All that being said, the most important factor is still the fan-favorite status of Eevee and all eight Eeveelutions. When that’s added to the fact that it’s a promotional card that’s full of character as well as its status as part of a set of eight on top of everything already mentioned, it’s no surprise that this is an extremely valuable card.
This card was never out in English.
A copy of a Poncho-wearing Eevee (SM-P Promotional Cards 139/SM-P) card has a truly massive price tag of 170,000 JPY (~US$1,087)!
