In 2017, a series of eight Poncho-wearing Eevee promotional Pokémon TCG cards were released. All eight of these cards depicted Eevee wearing a poncho resembling one of its eight evolutions. Not surprisingly, given the immense popularity of Eevee and the eight Eeveelutions, these cards have remained highly coveted to this day.

The card being shown here shows Eevee wearing a Glaceon poncho. The background of the card’s illustration alludes to Eevee’s Ice-type evolution as well—the plaid blue pattern coupled with the holofoil that covers the card is intended to call Glaceon’s color scheme and icy powers to mind.

The card’s gimmicky imagery and concept also serve as a major draw, as does the fact that the card is part of a set of eight. That latter point will likely do much to attract completionists. This card even alludes to the fact that this is just an Eevee dressed as a Glaceon by way of its attack—it’s printed as “Icy Wind?”; the question mark refers to the fact that it’s not really a Glaceon.

Finally, it’s implied that the Eevee shown desires to evolve into Glaceon someday. This adds an additional layer of character and narrative to the card.

This card was never released in English.

One copy of a Poncho-wearing Eevee (SM-P Promotional Cards 143/SM-P) card has a price tag of 58,000 JPY (~US$371).
