[ONE PIECE Card Game] This Vegapunk Card References the Set’s Name Itself (500 Years in the Future [OP07-097])
At the very least, the gap between his official manga introduction and TCG introduction is nowhere near the length of that between his first mention in the manga and his introduction.
The release of 500 Years in the Future [OP-07] saw the addition of characters and scenes from the One Piece manga’s Egghead Arc to the ONE PIECE Card Game for the very first time. Despite having first been mentioned in the Post-Enies Lobby Arc all the way back in 2006, it wasn’t until the Egghead Arc when Vegapunk, the leading scientist of the SSG, was depicted in the manga for the first time and would play a major role in the storyline. Thus, his depiction on one of the set’s most valuable cards was all but an inevitability.
The name of the set itself is indirectly named after Vegapunk. In the manga, Vegapunk is said to have attained a level of technological development regarded as being 500 years ahead of the present day in the story, hence the name “500 Years in the Future”.
On this card’s Parallel Art illustration, the Punk Records sign can clearly be seen. Punk Records is the designated storage area where Vegapunk’s ever-growing brain is located. It serves as a database which can be accessed by Vegapunk and any of his six satellites at any time, giving them all equal access to the same brain. These six satellites that represent a different aspect of Vegapunk’s being can be seen in the background of the illustration, alluding to this aspect of Punk Records.
Due to the presence of the satellites in the card’s image, this card also gets the value boost that cards depicting female characters usually receive. This is because three of Vegapunk’s six satellites—namely, York, Atlas, and Liith—are, in fact, female.
This card has already been released in English.
The sale price of a Vegapunk (500 Years in the Future [OP07-097]) card of LP rarity is 2,000 JPY (~US$12).
