Pokémon Legends Arceus, the prequel to fourth-generation main-series Pokémon video games Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, served as the inspiration for some of its era’s most memorable Pokémon TCG cards. Among these was the Super Rare (SR) version of the Friends in Hisui card from VSTAR Universe [S12a].

The card depicts Rei and Akari, the protagonists of Pokémon Legends Arceus; Adaman, the leader of the Diamond Clan, and Irida, the leader of the Pearl Clan. Its effect allows the player to draw three cards and is therefore identical to that of multiple different Supporter cards of the past.

Since this card has a Full Art illustration that features two female characters, the demographical value boost is in play. This was clearly something that was taken into account by the illustrator because Akari and Irida’s faces are closer to the center of the card than Adaman and Rei’s.

The illustration also includes a reference to the video game. Irida can be seen holding her Celestica Flute, an in-game item which can be used to summon one of five Ride Pokémon.

The English version of this card is 148/159 from the Crown Zenith set.

One copy of a Friends in Hisui (VSTAR Universe [S12a] 249/172) card of SR rarity sells for 4,500 JPY (~US$28).
