[Pokémon TCG] Sinnoh’s Space Deity Descends: Palkia (Legendary Shine Collection [CP2] 005/027)
Although this card was first released almost nine years ago, recent developments have jacked up its value and demand level.
The announcement made earlier this year that Pokémon Legends Z-A, an upcoming prequel to sixth-generation main series Pokémon video games Pokémon X and Y, would be on its way next year drove up the Pokémon fandom’s interest in all things Gen 6-related. The Pokémon TCG was no exception; many sixth-generation cards have since seen spikes in demand and value. The Palkia card from the Legendary Shine Collection [CP2] is one such card.
As has been alluded to, the Legendary Shine Collection [CP2] is a set from the Pokémon TCG’s sixth generation; thus, cards from it are well-positioned to capitalize on the newfound hype brought by the Pokémon Legends Z-A announcement. Additionally, Palkia itself is a beneficiary of the nostalgia for a past generation brought by a prequel; namely, Pokémon Legends Arceus, the much-lauded prequel to Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. Palkia is among the featured Legendaries in Pokémon Legends Arceus, alluding to its status as the box Legendary of Pokémon Pearl.
The card also features an eye-catching Full Art illustration showing Palkia ferociously unleashing its Cross Slicer attack. In addition to the lines across the card’s image that highlight the attack’s impact, there’s also a narrative element in play.
There’s a Latios in the background of the card’s illustration. That Latios is the one which is featured on its own card, also from the Legendary Shine Collection [CP2]. A third card from this set—a Zekrom card—is part of the narrative as well. On that card, this same Palkia can be seen in the background of the image.
The English version of this card is card XY75 from the XY Black Star Promos.
The price of a Palkia (Legendary Shine Collection [CP2] 005/027) card is 12,500 JPY (~US$77).
