[Yu-Gi-Oh TCG] The Players Get Their Wish With Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin’s Unban (Dimension of Chaos DOCS-JP029)
Looks like Konami DOES listen to the community sometimes.
Following its release in 2015 as part of Series 9 Core Booster Dimension of Chaos, Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin almost immediately became one of the most unstoppable powerhouses in the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG metagame. It only lasted about a year and a half before being banned from tournament play worldwide. However, recent changes to the meta have blunted the one game-breaking force this card once wielded. Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin was unbanned from tournament play outside Japan and Asia-Pacific in April 2024 and starting from July 2024, the same will apply in those two regions.
Although it’s still one of the most powerful cards in the meta, the game today has significantly changed from that of the era when it was first banned back in 2017. However, Konami waited until well after the release of Phantom Nightmare in October 2023 before considering an unban. This was because Phantom Nightmare came with ample Majespecter support—there wouldn’t really have been a reason to unban Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin before that because very few would likely have played it anyway.
The unbanning of Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin also has to do with the fact that Pendulum decks are much less potent in the current meta. Such decks were the source from which Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin did most of its damage back in the day. Today, most Yu-Gi-Oh TCG players agree that all Pendulum cards—not just this one—should no longer be banned.
This card has been released in English.
The PSA 10 price of a copy of Majespecter Unicorn – Kirin (Dimension of Chaos DOCS-JP029) is 9,570 JPY (~US$59).
