[Yu-Gi-Oh TCG] A Crucial Edit Saves Performage Plushfire From the Banlist (Animation Chronicle 2024 AC04-JP054)
A once-per-turn clause on this card's Pendulum and Monster effects make it no longer "broken".
When Performage Plushfire was first released as part of Dimension of Chaos, a 2015 Core Booster, the card almost immediately emerged as an overwhelming force in the metagame. The card served as a critical part of the PePe deck—so named due to its use of Performapal and Performage monsters—which quickly was shown to be clearly overpowered. As such, Performage Plushfire was fully banned from tournament play around the world in early 2016—not even a year into its existence.
However, starting from July 2024 and specifically referring to its edited reprint in Animation Chronicle 2024, Performage Plushfire will be merely restricted rather than outright banned. This is the result of an edit to its Pendulum and Monster effects.
The Animation Chronicle 2024 version of Performage Plushfire adds a once-per-turn clause to the card’s Pendulum effect that lets the player Special Summon the card from the player’s Pendulum Zone (though 500 damage must be sustained when doing so) if one or more controlled Performage monsters is destroyed by battle or card effect. The same clause now applies to its Monster effect which allows the player to Special Summon a Performage monster from the hand or deck except Performage Plushfire itself.
From a collector’s standpoint, while the Animation Chronicle 2024 does come in Secret Rare, expect all eyes to soon be on the Dimension of Chaos version. Should this card ever have further reprints, those reprints won’t be those of the original “broken” card, driving up that card’s scarcity and likely value.
Only the Dimension of Chaos version of this card is currently out in English.
The price of a Performage Plushfire (Animation Chronicle 2024 AC04-JP054) card in its PSA 10 form is 6,750 JPY (~US$42).
