[Pokémon TCG] Hassel Takes the Lost Zone Box Deck to New Heights (Mask of Change [SV6] 124/101)

Ironically, the card depicting a Dragon-type specialist is a staple of a deck which replaced a Dragon-type Pokémon in its most successful variant.

Pokémon TCG Hassel

The Dragon-type specialist of the Paldea region’s Elite Four, Hassel became a key component of the retooled Lost Zone Box deck almost as soon as Mask of Change [SV6] was released. Since then, the inclusion of Hassel has helped propel the Lost Zone Box deck to outstanding results in Pokémon TCG tournaments across the world—including a victory at the Pokémon North America International Championships (NAIC) in the hands of Andrew Hedrick.

This Supporter card is to be used in tandem with the Colress’s Experiment card from Lost Abyss [S11]. Colress’s Experiment allows the player to look at the top five cards of the deck before placing three into the hand, then placing the other two in the Lost Zone. Hassel, meanwhile, serves as a similar draw engine. Using this card enables the player to look at the top eight cards of the deck before placing three into the hand, then shuffling those not taken into the deck.

There’s a catch, though—Hassel can only be used when the opponent has just knocked out one or more of the player’s Pokémon on the previous turn. As such, Hassel is ideally used in the mid-game or late game when such a scenario is more likely. Typically, Hassel outperforms Colress’s Experiment as a draw engine in such situations.

This card stacks up well from a collector’s standpoint as well. This Super Rare (SR) card features a Full Art illustration which shows Hassel in either Naranja or Uva Academy (depending on which version of the video game is being played) where he’s the art teacher. Despite not featuring any canonical details, the card’s significant rarity does imbue it with inherent value.

The English version of this card is card 205/167 from Twilight Masquerade [TWM].

One copy of a Hassel (Mask of Change [SV6] 124/101) card of SR rarity sells for 2,290 JPY (~US$15).
