[Yu-Gi-Oh TCG] Evil★Twin’s Trouble Sunny References Various Canonical Details (TACTICAL-TRY DECK: The Phantom Thief Duo Evil★Twin TT01-JPB29)

On the surface, the recent launch of all three parts of the TACTICAL-TRY DECK series didn’t seem to have much of an impact as far as highly rare and valuable cards were concerned. However, each of the three preconstructed decks did contain one Ultra Rare card among the rest of the deck made of Commons. In the case of TACTICAL-TRY DECK: The Phantom Thief Duo Evil★Twin, that card was Evil★Twin’s Trouble Sunny.

One factor that has certainly driven up this card’s appeal is its inclusion of many details alluding to the Yu-Gi-Oh canon. The card features Luna and Sunny, the rivals of Ki-skil and Lil-la who are featured on a different card in the same TACTICAL-TRY DECK. Both Luna and Sunny appear in the form of their online avatars. Luna can be seen in the illustration of the Lil-la Rap card from Evil★Twin Duel Set while Sunny makes a cameo in that of Live☆Twin Sunny’s Snitch, another card from this TACTICAL-TRY DECK.

Adding to this, the card’s artwork contains various shout-outs to cards from sets of the past. The cards referenced in the illustration include Monster Assortment from Dawn of Majesty, Nutrient Z from Mythological Age, Rikka Glamour from Deck Build Pack: Secret Slayers, and Instant Fusion from Cyberdark Impact. This is likely to add to demand by playing on the nostalgia factor—especially in the cases of Nutrient Z and Instant Fusion which were first released way back in 2001 and 2006 respectively.

Of course, this being a card that depicts two female characters, the demographic value boost is in play here. Additionally, Luna and Sunny appeal to a specific female character archetype, and this fact allows the card to appeal to certain fans who have taken to that archetype.

While each TACTICAL-TRY DECK was only released in Japanese, this card is a reprint; hence, past versions of this card do exist in English.

The sale price of an Evil★Twin’s Trouble Sunny (TACTICAL-TRY DECK: The Phantom Thief Duo Evil★Twin TT01-JPB29) card is 4,100 JPY (~US$26).
