2024 is shaping to be another banner year for Nike and Jordan Brand, with more than a handful of best Nike sneakers emerging as strong contenders for “Sneaker of the Year” honors.

At the vanguard is the Futura Laboratories x Nike SB Dunk Low “White and Geode Teal”, recently concluding its hype train’s 6-month journey, having been teased since December 2023. Predictably, hot on its heels are the Travis Scott x Nike Jordan Jumpman Jack TR “Sail and Dark Mocha”, and the J Balvin x Nike Air Jordan 3 Retro SP “Rio”, both a showcase of high-profile collaborations.

This year has also seen the return of iconic Nike Kobe colorways, including the “Reverse Grinch” Kobe 6 Protro and the “Venice Beach” Kobe 8 Protro; as well as special commemorative ones such as the “Mambacita” Kobe 8, in celebration of what would have been Gianna Bryant’s 18th birthday.

Familiar names like Supreme, UNDEFEATED, Cactus Plant Flea Market, and Patta have returned for another round, offering their interpretations of classic silhouettes. But new collaborators have also joined the party, the likes of New York-based luxury menswear brand Bode with their take on the archival Astro Grabber, and Brazilian skateboarding prodigy Rayssa Leal with her first signature Nike SB Dunk Low.

Nevertheless, as stellar as the releases have been in the first half, the second might make the “Sneaker of the Year” selections even harder. Notable ones slated then include the highly anticipated Nike Air Jordan 1 High “Black Toe Reimagined” in October, the hallmark Air Jordan 3 “Black Cement” in November, and A Ma Maniére’s Air Jordan 3 in July—lest we forget the ones projected for this year, but haven’t had a firm release date disclosed.

With that said, there’s plenty more to look forward to.
