Sashiko Stitching Inspires This New Balance 550 Pack
Arriving in two colorways, both decorative and functional, much like the Japanese embroidery style they are modelled after.
New Balance is giving their popular 550 silhouette a fresh look with the introduction of the “Sashiko Pack.” Ditching the usual leather upper, these new kicks come in “Pecan” and “Linen” colorways and feature a unique texture thanks to a heavy canvas construction.
The design draws inspiration from Japanese sashiko embroidery, with its intricate stitching and attention to detail. Branding remains present via the grey suede “N” logos, the embroidered “550” on the eyelets, and the “NB” on the heels. The tongue tag swaps the standard design for a patchwork aesthetic that complements the overall look.
Both sneakers sit on a clean off-white midsole and outsole, finished with tonal laces for a cohesive look. The New Balance 550 “Sashiko Pack” was released on 24 May 2024 via New Balance’s website. It has a retail price tag of US$120 and comes in full-family sizing. If you haven’t, favorite the pair in your size on the SNKRDUNK App so you get notified when prices drop.
