[ONE PIECE Card Game] The Red/Purple Law Deck Is Arguably the Meta’s Biggest Threat
Anyone intending to go deep in a ONE PIECE Card Game tournament, if not playing this deck, will likely have to know how to play against it.
[Update 14 Aug 2024] As per the official English Twitter account of the ONE PIECE Card Game, the Red/Purple Trafalgar Law Leader card from The Three Captains [ST-10] and therefore this deck will be banned from tournament play in regions other than Japan and Asia-Pacific from 6 September 2024.
[Update 13 Aug 2024] BANDAI has now confirmed that the Red/Purple Trafalgar Law Leader card from The Three Captains [ST-10]—the deck around which this deck is built—will be banned from tournament play. Therefore, this deck will be unable to be used starting from 1 September 2024 in Japan and Asia-Pacific. The date of the Law card’s and thus this deck’s ban elsewhere isn’t yet known.
Although it’s been a while since any specific deck emerged as the clear-cut “deck to beat”, the Red/Purple Law deck is making a very strong case for that title. Its recent hot streak across tournaments around the world have put it in the position where it’s close to being the consensus pick as the current most dominant deck.
A core part of the deck’s strategy involves the use of the promotional Gordon card as well as the Raise Max card from Wings of the Captain [OP-06]; both cards reduce the power of an opponent’s Character by 3000 during that turn. Following this, the player can use the deck’s Leader card, the Trafalgar Law card from The Three Captains [ST-10], to place the newly-depowered opposing Character at the bottom of the opponent’s deck before the player plays a Character card with a cost of 4 or less from the hand.
Since this deck burns through DON!! cards fairly rapidly, it’ll also be helpful to play the Mr. 2 Bon Clay (Bentham) card from the Extra Booster Memorial Collection [EB-01] and the Ain card from the One Piece Film Edition Starter Deck [ST-05] to replenish DON!! cards. The Mr. 2 Bon Clay (Bentham) card can also pose an attacking threat if necessary; it copies the base power of any of the opponent’s Character cards of the player’s choice for that turn.
When mulliganing, cards to prioritize include the aforementioned Raise Max, Ain, and Gordon cards as well as Vinsmoke Reiju from Wings of the Captain [OP-06] to increase the number of cards in hand.
Buying all the cards in a Red/Purple Law deck costs at least 58,460 JPY (~US$375).
