Whenever the Pokémon World Championships come around, there’ll inevitably be a slew of Pokémon TCG products to accompany them. These items almost always become highly sought-after collector’s items due to their unique status.

When the 2023 Pokémon World Championships were held in Yokohama, the 2023 World Championships Yokohama Deck: Pikachu [WCS23] was released in conjunction with the event. This Pikachu ex card was the flagship card and like its predecessors, has also seen general interest from buyers remain high long after the tournament’s conclusion.

Like all other World Championships-related cards, this Pikachu ex card has the tournament’s logo emblazoned in the bottom-right corner. The background of the card depicts a Pokémon arena—implying that it’s the illustrator’s take on the arena in which the players went head-to-head for the world championship title.

The card also features Koraidon and Miraidon, the mascots of ninth-generation main-series video games Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. This is fitting because the 2023 World Championships were the first of Pokémon’s ninth generation. Additionally, Miraidon is also an Electric-type, so that further serves to augment the effect of the electric attack being unleashed by Pikachu ex and thus add character to the illustration.
