Pokémon TCG Ciphermaniac's Codebreaking

In most cases, the most popular Pokémon TCG cards featuring human characters are typically 1) those of female characters and 2) those of a character from the video games. Well, in this case while the first point applies, the second doesn’t—yet this Ciphermaniac’s Codebreaking card has nevertheless ended up as one of the most desired cards from Cyber Judge [SV5M].

Of course, as mentioned and as is usually the case, this card’s featured character is female—and due to demographic appeal, that serves to make this card more coveted. There’s also an allusion to the video games—in this instance, that would be Pokémon Violet. The Ciphermaniac in the card’s illustration is holding the Violet Book, intent on uncovering the secrets of the mysterious Area Zero where in Pokémon Violet, Future Paradox Pokémon live.

In addition, the fact that this card specifically refers to Pokémon Violet but not Pokémon Scarlet might actually be a plus point for more serious Pokémon fans. That’s because Cyber Judge [SV5M] is themed around Violet while its counterpart set Wild Force [SV5K] is based on Scarlet—and it’s details like this which will undoubtedly impress some.

Going back to the point about the most popular human character cards being those of characters from the video games, that’s usually the case because many Pokémon fans carry their fandom and their favorite video game characters into the TCG. However, this card clearly bucks the trend—largely because it’s one of just two female character cards in Cyber Judge [SV5M], the other being Bianca’s Devotion.

The English version of this card is card 197/162 in Temporal Forces [TEF].

According to the latest figures, a Ciphermaniac’s Codebreaking (Cyber Judge [SV5M] 090/071) card sells for 2,400 JPY (~US$16).
