An originally rather ordinary card first released to little fanfare as part of the ONE PIECE Card Game Starter Deck Straw Hat Pirates [ST-01], the subsequent re-release of this Monkey D. Luffy card brought the entire One Piece community to a standstill—and for good reason. Series creator Eiichiro Oda signed this special-edition version of the card.

In August 2023, Oda signed this card in commemoration of the first anniversary of the ONE PIECE Card Game’s launch. It was then included in certain packs from the Awakening of the New Era [OP-05] set.

Unlike the original version, the Oda Signed Monkey D. Luffy card comes in holofoil. Additionally, gold holofoil outlines Luffy’s image and covers the character’s name, infusing the card with additional prestige.

As the protagonist of the One Piece series, Luffy was the obvious choice to have a card re-issued with Oda’s signature on it. This card’s presence in the very first Starter Deck ever released as well as its dynamic imagery made it an even more obvious pick for a signed re-release.

The Oda Signed version of this Monkey D. Luffy card has not been released in English and will likely never be.

A PSA 10 version of an Oda Signed Monkey D. Luffy (Straw Hat Pirates [ST01-012]) is predictably pricey, coming in at 220,000 JPY (~US$1,451).
