Good thing this isn't the video game—Tera Fighting on Greninja makes absolutely no sense whatsoever in those.

When the type-changing Terastallization mechanic debuted in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet video games, its incorporation into the Pokémon TCG was inevitable. Due to their novelty, cards featuring Terastallized Pokémon have ranked among the most desired and valuable of the ninth generation thus far. Adding to that list is the newly released Greninja ex card from Crimson Haze [SV5a].

This Special Art Rare (SAR) card’s Full Art illustration by Akagi has been completely done with a crystalline aesthetic—alluding to the Tera Shards that permit any Pokémon to Terastallize. The card’s holofoil further brings out this crystalline effect which extends to a pair of crystalline shuriken placed in the bottom-left corner. These shurikens are almost certainly those wielded by Greninja ex itself.

The card’s eye-catching visual appeal isn’t the only thing that jacks up its popularity. Various polls have consistently shown that Greninja is the single most popular Pokémon in Japan—and that fact alone is more than enough to elevate demand for this card. Throw in the Tera factor, the stylized artwork, the SAR rarity, and the gameplay viability through its massive 310 HP and tremendously powerful attacks and it’s easy to see why this card is greatly sought by so many.

The English version of this card is card 214/167 in Twilight Masquerade [TWM].

The retail price of a Greninja ex (Crimson Haze [SV5a] 090/066) card of SAR rarity is 10,800 JPY (~US$71).
