ONE PIECE Card Game Banned Cards

When the Absolute Justice [ST-06] Starter Deck, themed around Marines characters, was released, it wasn’t long before countless ONE PIECE Card Game players realized the incredible power of the Great Eruption card.

It wasn’t just exceptionally viable in the context of that Starter Deck—it could be used in just about any deck to give the player an exponential advantage with little to no risk. As a result, BANDAI deemed the Great Eruption card to be “broken” and banned it from official gameplay.

The card depicts the most powerful attack of Fleet Admiral Sakazuki (who coincidentally features on another banned card). The product of Sakazuki’s consumption of the Magma-Magma Fruit, Great Eruption causes Sakazuki’s right fist to turn into pure magma before he launches the attack, incinerating everything in its path.

The sheer force of the Great Eruption attack is further emphasized in the card’s illustration by the use of Japanese letters representing sound effect surrounding Sakazuki’s ignited fist. A speech bubble taken directly from the manga adds the finishing touch to the striking visual.

The primary reason behind this card’s ban is the fact that no other ONE PIECE Card Game card reduces cost without imposing conditions upon the player or using up cards from the player’s hand, thus tilting the balance of the game too far in the player’s favor for the card to be deemed balanced. Like the other banned cards, its forbidden status might end up drawing collectors’ interest and cause a rise in value over time.

This card’s English translation has already been released.

A Great Eruption (ST06-015) card is relatively affordable, costing ¥830 (~US$5.49).
