[ONE PIECE Card Game] 3 Cards to Be Banned From Tournament Play Starting From 1 April 2024
According to BANDAI, these cards were blacklisted after being deemed "broken".
BANDAI has announced that three more cards will be banned from official ONE PIECE Card Game tournament play starting from 1 April 2024. These three cards will join the Moby Dick and Cabaji cards from the Paramount War [OP-02] set on the banlist.
Sakazuki (OP05-041)
This Sakazuki card from the Awakening of a New Era [OP-05] booster pack makes it too easy to build up an overpowering hand. Its color combination of blue and black, meanwhile, gives it excessive flexibility and makes it able to create situations which ignore various limiting effects. Decks built around this Sakazuki card are remarkably stable to a point where they have begun to have an overcentralizing effect on the metagame.
Since BANDAI has determined that this overcentralization has occurred to such a degree that the overall health of the meta has been compromised, Sakazuki (OP05-041) will be banned from tournament play.
Great Eruption (ST06-015)
Although lots of cards have cost-reducing effects, Great Eruption is the only one which does so without any conditions or discards from the player’s hand. Adding to this, this card introduced as part of the Absolute Justice [ST-06] Starter Deck retains its viability in every stage of the game.
Statistics have shown that decks containing Great Eruption (ST06-015) have an excessive win rate at a level unhealthy for the meta. This is especially true of decks using this card that primarily use black cards. In addition, this card has been overcentralizing the metagame as it is, unsurprisingly, by far the most-used of all cost-reducing cards. With everything taken into account, it only made sense to ban this card.
Reject (OP06-116)
This card hands a near-insurmountable advantage to yellow decks by combining its effect of dealing 1 damage to the opponent with specific Triggers. On top of that, this card’s cost of dealing this damage is relatively low. This combination allows players to use this card to avoid much of the risk factors associated with most yellow decks.
The card from the Wings of the Captain [OP-06] booster pack has thus been banned not only for harming the meta, but also by making it too easy to use “cheesing”—the term used for low-quality, “brain-dead” strategies—to garner easy wins.
