[Pokémon TCG] Pikachu VMAX Displays Gigantamax Glory (Amazing Volt Tackle [S4] 114/100)
Sometimes, bigger really is better.
The Gigantamax mechanic was a specialized version of the Dynamax mechanic introduced in the Pokémon Sword and Shield video games and was available to a select few Pokémon. Owing to its status as the face of the Pokémon franchise, it was inevitable that Pikachu would be one such Pokémon. Pikachu’s Gigantamax form subsequently made it to the Pokémon TCG in the form of this spectacular Pikachu VMAX card from the Amazing Volt Tackle [S4] expansion.
The most striking thing to notice about this Hyper Rare (HR) card is the rainbow palette that envelops it. Only a select few cards are printed in such colors—implying that this card was always planned to be one of the set’s major pulls.
The illustration by aky CG Works is positioned from ground level looking up at the now giant-sized Pikachu. This low angle puts the overwhelming size of Gigantamax Pikachu into perspective—all 21 meters of it.
Long-time Pokémon fans may have noticed that this card makes use of Pikachu’s chunkier body shape which it had in the earliest Pokémon generations. Considering the fact that—largely driven by nostalgia— fans have been begging for a return to this shape for many years, having this Pikachu shape on a more modern card makes it all the more desirable.
This card has been released in English as card 188/185 of the Vivid Voltage expansion set.
The price of a Pikachu VMAX (Amazing Volt Tackle [S4] 114/100) card is 49,800 JPY (~US$337).
