One of the most memorable plot twists in the canon of One Piece was the reveal that series protagonist Monkey D. Luffy was Nika, a legendary figure referred to as the “Sun God”, following the awakening of Luffy’s Devil Fruit powers. In this card from the Awakening of a New Era [OP-05] booster pack, Luffy is displayed in the guise of this alternative identity.

While the Monkey D. Luffy (Nika) card isn’t the only one from this booster pack to boast the Secret Rare Promotional (SEC-P) rarity, it’s the only one bearing the image of the iconic protagonist; this combination sends its value through the roof. In fact, prior to this card’s release in August 2023, there had already been much speculation regarding its rarity and value—most already had an inkling that this card would be an epic pull for a lucky few.

Although all PSA 10 cards see a significant price uptick when compared to their ordinary counterparts, the leap in value seen in this card is truly extraordinary. This isn’t surprising, given how in-demand this particular card is.

Buying a PSA 10 version of a Monkey D. Luffy (Nika) (Awakening of the New Era [OP05-119]) card will costs more than a little, to say the least. Such a card goes for ¥418,000 (US$2,780)!
