The Nike WMNS Air Jordan 38 Low “Dearica Hamby” Is a Textural Party
Made of a combination of nubuck, neoprene, and two types of textile, this sneaker's construction is—if not outright one-of-a-kind—surely close to it.
Jordan Brand has long been a staunch backer of the WNBA—a fact proven by its latest sneaker featuring Los Angeles Sparks forward Dearica Hamby. The Nike WMNS Air Jordan 38 Low “Dearica Hamby” pays tribute to Hamby’s WNBA career of nine seasons and counting.
The sneaker makes use of a mixture of orange and yellow shades, alluding to the Sparks’ team colors. The yellow nubuck and textile upper extends across the toe and midfoot. It makes for an intriguing contrast with the toe and eyestays’ orange nubuck.
For even more textural contrast, the tongue comes in orange neoprene. That’s not all—the collar and heel are made of orange embroidered textile. This wide range of materials makes this shoe a true outlier—indeed, it’s exactly this rather avant-garde construction that will likely drive its success and popularity.
On the insole, there’s a sun-like Jumpman graphic placed against a yellow background. Paired with this is a yellow-and-orange foam midsole that comes with semi-translucent white TPU overlays.
To finish it all off, there’s a semi-translucent white sole unit capable of delivering high performance while maintaining a stylish look. In general, all of the sneaker’s thematic elements and designs are chosen to complement one another and create a cohesive, consistent aesthetic.
The Nike WMNS Air Jordan 38 Low “Dearica Hamby” drops on 1 March 2024 through Nike and select Jordan Brand retailers online and in-store. Available in women’s sizing, the retail price for a pair is US$185.
