Before he made YEEZY, he made PASTELLE. And it's finally seeing the light of day almost a decade and a half later.

FKA Kanye West’s mark on fashion is just as indelible as it is in music. His entry into the industry began at least a decade before the birth of his now-troubled yet monolithic YEEZY brand. First conceptualized in the late ’00s, PASTELLE was intended to be his first fully-formed fashion label. Typically Ye, he assembled a dream team of fashion industry heavyweights to work on the brand.

In addition to his core team of Virgil Abloh, Don C, Willo Perron, and Matt George, he also enlisted Kim Jones (Louis Vuitton’s men’s artistic director at the time), Emma Hedlund and Saif Baker (now best known for CMMN SWDN), Ben Baller (accessories), Retrosuperfuture (eyewear), KAWS (logo), and BAPE (distribution).

More than a decade removed, PASTELLE will finally see the light of day when it officially debuts at ComplexCon 2023 in Long Beach, California.

The brand has been in production purgatory for years, but is now poised for a comeback with a new team of designers led by Ian Connor. There’s nothing to ascertain how deep Ye’s involvement is in the revival, or whether he is involved at all.

Nevertheless, attendees of ComplexCon can expect a Louvre-inspired brand experience and an exclusive merch drop. PASTELLE is also planning pop-ups in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, London, and Japan in the coming months. Stay tuned!
