Make something as polarizing as it can be, so they don’t need to talk about it, the people will. That seems to be MSCHF’s only MO since the Brooklyn-based art collective came into more prominence a few years ago.

It’s guerrilla marketing at its finest with virality inherently part of their footwear’s DNA. Even stealing the spotlight at Paris Fashion Week with their Crocs-collab Big Yellow Boot, without being an official part of the show.

This time however, they are. Walking the runway at Tokyo Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2024 show, is BAPE’s interpolation of the Big Red Boot.

The entirety of the boot is covered with the Japanese legacy streetwear brand’s iconic ABC camo. Three colorways are seen—a pink, a blue, and green; with the Ape Head emblem integrated within the pattern.

These looks come courtesy of Highsnobiety. MSCHF has confirmed to Complex that BAPE did purchase a batch of the Big Red Boots to specifically customize for the show. Thus, it’s not an official collaboration and there’s no public release in the horizon.

Nevertheless, anything can change in the future. And when they do, you’ll hear about it from us here at this very page!
