An Early Look at the First Non-adidas YEEZY Dubbed the “AQUA50”
First from Ye, sans the Three Stripes.
FKA Kanye has been at the vanguard of the footwear zeitgeist for almost two decades now. From his Louis Vuitton partnership, to Nike, and its zenith via his run with adidas. The last, even though its simply riding off the inertia, still made half a billion dollars since sales of the remaining stock were jumpstarted.
His post-adidas era is in its nascent stages and it’s hard to say where the YEEZY brand is at now. For one, the brand has returned to being an enigma, which might essentially be a good thing. When the silhouettes of the adidas YEEZY line were first introduced, they too were as much polarizing and divisive. But as history has shown, eventually proved successful. Case in point: the Foam Runner and MX Slide.
The point is, whenever Ye’s direction is up in the air, he delivers something groundbreaking. Perhaps the same will apply to the YEEZY AQUA50, the first model to surface post-adidas.
Based on the image from @0.0archive, the titular shoes employ a minimalistic foam-heavy construction with medial perforations, and a heel pull tab. The only Rosetta stone thus far is the production notes pictured. Therein also mentions “CAN THIS BE LOW COST?”, alluding to Ye’s primary desire of making the brand accessible to more people.
There’s nothing to ascertain how close the design is to completion but it’s already proving to be as bewildering as anything Ye’s known to deliver. It will be an acquired taste, but no matter, his loyalists will likely still drink the YEEZY-flavored Kool-Aid.
Stay tuned for more details! Let’s hope he stays out of controversy to not steal away attention from his genius. How long can the people keep separating the art from the artist.
