adidas and Marimekko return for their fifth joint effort, producing a whole array of apparel and footwear. Their Spring/Summer 2023 collection subsumes several of adidas’ classic and contemporary designs, while fused with Marimekko’s hallmark prints from their timeless archives conceived in their early years in the 1960s.

Marimekko is a Finnish lifetyle design company renowned for their original prints and colors. Founded in the 1940s, they produced their first fashion show in 1951 to demonstrate how their textiles can be used to make clothes, summoning back two to be used as the design basis of the collection: the Linssi from 1966 and Lokki from 1961.

Starting off with the former, the UltraBOOST 1.0 presents the Linssi print in a monochromatic makeup all over the PrimeKnit upper, while accented by orange on the heel cage at the rear. On its trail, the NMD R1 sees the aforementioned print in a mix of light brown and black on its lightweight body. Its appearance is more moderate on the Superstar appearing heel counter and the signature Three Stripes on the profiles. It lands next on the first of two SuperNova 2.0s offered, seen on the circumference of the midsole and the eyestays. Last but not least, is the ZSNORED HI, the only high-top offering. It engulfs the entirety of its canvas upper while presiding over the translucent rubber sole unit.

The Lokki print, formed with a pastel palette of sky blue, light orange and brown, arrives on the second SuperNova 2.0; especially on the midsoles with the colors highlighted on the tongue and eyestays of the recycled upper. On the Court Revival, its presence is both bold and subdued with the colors limited to the fore and rear, kept apart by the predominantly off white upper. For the only non-sneaker offering comes the Aqualette Ocean Clogs, here embellished with the same lively color palette and print, housed under solid orange strap.

The entire collection is scheduled for 15 March and will be sold exclusively on adidas worldwide. It will be accompanied by a whole lineup of performance apparel and accessories such as caps, bags, as well as a water bottle amongst others.

Similar in tone, consider checking out the Flower Mountain x Universal Works Collection as well.
