over print, a cult label from Japan, will be touching down in sunny Singapore via SNKRDUNK’s flagship store at Mandarin Gallery on 24 June at 11 am (SGT)!

What’s special, you might ask? This special event will see the release of over print’s POP ART TEE Ver:8 series. A unique version of the tee will launch exclusively at SNKRDUNK Singapore, along with a limited-edition sticker that comes free with every purchase. If you’re a fan, mark the date and be sure to turn up early as quantities are limited!

Behind the Design: POP ART TEE Ver:8

Designed by resident illustrator COTOH TSUMI, over print’s eighth installment of POP ART series centers around purin (眠岸ぷりん), an idol from the group NANIMONO. While the illustration is vibrant and undoubtedly cute, over print managed to invoke a sense of eeriness through the use of glow-in-the-dark phosphorescent paint. In line with the brand’s retro ethos, the full-color graphic is handprinted layer by layer.

The brand’s POP ART series, as its name suggests, is inspired by Andy Warhol’s oeuvre. In keeping with earlier entries, the main graphic doesn’t vary across versions, but the print color does with each POP UP STORE location. This gives different groups of people access to a truly unique piece; an intimate experience that consistently adds to over print’s growing status in Asia.

SNKRDUNK Singapore’s POP UP STORE will be the only location in the world to release the beige version of the graphic. In tandem with Singapore’s event, a different green hue of the same graphic will be launched in Japan.

The POP ART TEE Ver:8 *SINGAPORE Limited will be available from 24 June at SNKRDUNK Singapore. Coming in both black and white, the tees will retail for S$69 each.

About over print

Hailing from Asia’s fashion capital, over print is a new face on the block that has taken Tokyo’s street scene by storm. Founded by Takashi Yamawaki in 2019, the label frequently works with popular illustrators such as ZERO ZERO HERO and COTOH TSUMI to create intricate yet sometimes psychedelic graphic tees.

Themed around elements of ’90s Harajuku street fashion, rock, and skate cultures, the label aims to capture the zeitgeist through their endearing illustrations. With the slogan of ‘retro50%:street50%’, the brand’s hallmark comes in the form of a female, retro anime-esque character print. Even if you’ve never heard of the label, chances are you might have seen an artwork or two before on Instagram—which serves as the brand’s main communication channel.

What makes over print even more unique is their choice to stray away from where other street labels operate. While most aspire to open a physical store, over print instead creates one-day-only POP UP STORES across the country. The label takes pride in hosting experiences at alternative locations such as music venues, CD shops, bars, and even outdoor tents. As you might expect, their limited POP UP STORES products sell out almost immediately after opening.

In a similar vein, over print has never been afraid to venture beyond conventional partnerships when it comes to their collaborations. To date, they’ve worked with brands, personalities, and groups from all walks of life. Names such as AKB48, Hatsune Miku, ONE PIECE, and 9090 are among the many that the label has printed over.
