Russell Westbrook’s latest shoe design is a heartfelt one. Coming on his new silhouette, the Jordan Why Not .6 “KB3”, the design is in honor of his late childhood friend, Khelcey Bars III.

During a basketball game in high school, Khelcey Barrs III suffered a heart attack and unfortunately passed on. Westbrook, his best friend and teammate, took it upon himself to care for Barrs’ grandma and attend to chores until he graduated.

Now, Westbrook is looking to honor and cement Barrs’ name in the legacy books, through the release of the Jordan Why Not .6 “KB3”, which he has done on a yearly basis.

This iteration sees the Why Not .6 dressed in Blue Whisper on most of the sneaker, while a semi-translucent mesh orange layer covers most of the shoe’s overlays. “KB” appears on the heel tabs of the shoes, paying homage to Barrs.

Check out official images of the Jordan Why Not .6 “KB3” via the top slider above, and expect it to arrive at Nike and select retailers in the coming months. The retail price is US$140.
