[Update 16 May 2023] Following its initial release a few days back via Palace Skateboards, a wider release on 19 May has now been confirmed for the Palace x New Balance collection via New Balance.

[Update 9 May 2023] More information has arrived shortly after the parties released the teaser. Now it’s been confirmed the collection will include two colorways of the Made in UK 991, along with an array of performance-focused apparel line of t-shirts, jackets, shorts, and caps.

The first wears a combination of purple, grey, black, and pink colors; the other in a choice of teal, tan, purple, or black. Both pairs comes constructed with a ripstop foundation, leather trims, suede running over the mudguards and heel counters, while various textiles are used on the medials and the iconic “N” logo sits on the profiles. The design is finished with Palace branding on the tongues, heels, and insoles, “P991” lace dubraes, and dual-colored rubber outsoles.

They drop on Palace’s brick-and-click on 12 May, 11am, EDT; 13 May in Japan on the region’s webstore, and on the “Palace_Skateboards” WeChat store the same day, CST.

LINE

Palace Skateboards has far transcended its principal purpose of just selling skateboard apparel and accessories. Although they started out as such, they’ve rolled over the cement floors of the skatepark onto the marble floors of the House of Gucci. On the journey between, they’ve collaborated with brands across the echelon from adidas, Reebok, and Vans—just to name a few.

With reference to the last (Vans), the promotional video was executed with an eccentricity now signature to Palace. That eccentricity is once more is display with the promotional video for their upcoming collection with New Balance, their sophomore joint effort. Where the former introduced the offerings by way of a bygone era, Apple-esque product launch, this new one goes back to an even deeper epoch in the time of the Cro-Magnons, showing two scouring the forest, amused by a discovery, presumably the shoes.

The collection remains an enigma right now with the only Rosetta Stone being the said video on Palace’s Instagram. But it at least ascertains that a collaboration is in the works. Stay tuned!
