Nike Honors the Houston Comets’ 4-Peat With a Special Air Force 1 Low
Celebrating a feat we may never be seen in sports again.
The Houston Comets from 1997 to 2000 cemented their spot in the pantheon of the greatest sports teams in history. With the “Big 3” of Sheryl Swoopes, Tina Thompson, and Cynthia Cooper, the WNBA team accomplished a feat that may never be seen in sports again: four consecutive championship runs. To celebrate this momentous achievement, Nike delivers a special Air Force 1 Low in the team’s honor.
The palette is directly derivative of the home court uniform of the now-defunct team. Hints of blue embellishments along with red flashes adorn the white leather upper; tongue; laces; and insoles. The Swooshes and heel overlays are given a satin, navy finish, framed within the aforementioned red. Said color also forming the embroidery in the style of league jerseys that indicates the four championship years. Below on the lateral heel, a four-finger motif is similarly embroidered in a silver thread. The pair’s aesthetic is rounded off by a straightforward white and navy sole unit.
A release date hasn’t been disclosed but they should arrive within the coming months. With these official campaign images, there’s reason to believe it’s imminent. Stay tuned!
