[Update 4 May 2023] More official images of the upcoming Wales Bonner x adidas Footwear Collection have emerged, courtesy of @le.syndrome. Get a closer look at both Wales Bonner x adidas Samba colorways as well as the two SL72s via the top slider above as we await further release information.

[Update 27 Apr 2023] Accompanying the metallic Wales Bonner x adidas Samba previously mentioned in this story, a much more comforting new cream and brown colorway has recently surfaced.

Sporting a mix of suede and leather, this offering sees the Samba dipped in a more palatable color scheme, with cream taking on the base of the upper while brown accentuates the fold-over tongue. Co-branding between the two appear on the inside of the tongue as well as the insole, while the Three Stripes’ logo on the midpanel highlights the sneaker in yellow.

adidas Sambas have become one of the hottest properties of the footwear industry, so much so that you can barely find one on the shelves. Unsurprisingly, designers looking to work with the Three Stripes immediately flock toward the popular silhouette, such as Ronnie Fieg and Clarks’ recent project.

Grace Wales Bonner, one of the fastest-rising designers in the fashion world, is set to join the Samba action. For fans of her menswear label, Wales Bonner, there’s even greater news—the duo is set to work on the Samba and two SL72s in a three-sneaker collection.

To note, this isn’t the first time Wales Bonner and adidas have worked together. Back in 2020, the duo worked together to create one of the most sought-after adidas Sambas in recent history, as well as a more recent one last year.

This time around, Bonner dons the Samba in familiar details hashed in from the two previous collaborations. Coming in near-clad reflective gunmetal finish across its upper, the popular silhouette sees the iconic Three Stripes logo dressed in decorative stitches on both the mid panel and heel. Wales Bonner’s text appears over the heel counter, while exposed stitching highlights the tongue and heel tab.

The two SL72 designs on the other hand come in less-flashy colors. But what it lacks in shine it makes up for in its construction. The uppers feature a woven mesh upper along with suede overlays and leather tongues. One appears in green with orange accents, while the other comes in brown and red. The label’s branding appears in the same spot as the Samba, and the stitched detailing also takes its form on the SL72’s heel.
