Stay High with Reebok’s “420” Collection
Weed out your worst shoes, fly high with these.
Though mainly for the au courant, Cannabis culture is definitely gaining more prominence every year especially in more liberal countries. Everywhere else, it’s a clandestine practice. The etymology of “4/20” is obscure or at least debatable, but April 20th has been a day dedicated to the herb’s recreational use, celebrated by its aficionados and enthusiasts. With that, Reebok joins the festivities with a three-piece thematic collection.
The trio of offerings aptly feature an earthy palette, along with a free and easy mix of textures and materials. Seen on the Twilight Zone Pump and the Classic Leather, a myriad of paisley prints across disparate textiles like suede, corduroy, nubuck, and washed denim are cobbled together to form a patchwork. In addition to this laissez-faire approach, there’s also the tearaway tongue tags reminiscent of the paraphernalia where on the underside hides a grassy green textile nodding to the obvious.
Presiding over the aforementioned is a marijuana motif on the tongue. Moreover, the effects of the narcotic is visually referenced in a hazy psychedelia of the Reebok logo. The style similarly serves as a highlight on the last of the three-pack, found on the heel strap of the Beatnik. The hybrid mule is relatively more uniform compared to the former two with a canvas textile making the upper.
The 420 collection will be available on Reebok’s brick-and-click ahead of the celebration, arriving on 1 April. The Pump Twilight Zone will carry a US$180 price tag; the Classic Leather a US$100; and the Beatnik for US$130.
