Vans and Gucci Team Up for One-of-a-Kind Custom Sneakers
When archived Gucci fabrics and iconic Vans silhouettes meet.
Back in the day, customers of Vans could bring their favorite fabric or an old garment to their California Factory store to be repurposed into one-of-a-kind Vans sneakers under the brand’s “customade for you” initiative.
This idea of breathing new life into a piece of treasured clothing ties in nicely with Gucci Continuum—a new sustainability program from the Italian luxury house that aims to “turn archived Gucci materials into new pieces”.
Beginning this Spring 2023 season, Gucci will work with brands across various fields on Gucci Continuum. These brands include Rave Review, EGONLab, Alpha Industries x Slam Jam, and, of course, Vans.
As the first guest on Continuum, Vans has selected two of their classic silhouettes, the Old Skool and Slip-On, and the newer Mule model, and completely overhauled them in Gucci fabrics from the Alessandro Michele era (specifically Pre-Fall 2017).
A total of five Gucci x Vans sneakers have been created—expect romantic floral canvas paired with black leather and studs and patchwork leather punctured with eyelets and studs. These unisex styles also come in special edition boxes inspired by the OG Vans “customade for you” boxes.
The Gucci x Vans sneakers are available for sale with prices ranging from US$290 to US$380 on Gucci.com now.
Meanwhile, Gucci and adidas expand on their creative partnership with a new SS23 collection.
